RAMSAR CONVENTION
In 1971, in Ramsar, Iran, the world’s major countries made an agreement to preserve wetlands so that biodiversity could be conserved, this agreement is called the Ramsar Convention. This treaty came into force since 1975. The places where ponds, lakes, river deltas or sea banks are covered by floods are called wetlands. When a wetland is of international importance, it is called a Ramsar site.
