IPS Ravi Sinha is a senior officer of the Indian Police Service. He has been appointed as the new chief of India’s intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) on 19 June. Presently RAW chief Samant Goyal is the head of RAW. Ravi Sinha is a 1988 batch IPS officer working as Special Secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat. He is also called operation man.
New RAW chief will take charge on June 30
The current RAW chief Samant Goel is an IPS officer of the Punjab cadre. He will retire on 30th June. In his place, Ravi Sinha will take charge of Indian intelligence agency RAW. His tenure will be of 2 years. Samant Goel took over from RAW chief Anil Dhasmana in June 2019. Samant Goel’s tenure was full of achievements.
Role of RAW in the security of the country
Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) was formed in September 1968 when the Bureau of Investigation formed in 1941 could not function properly in the Indo-China war of 1962 and the Indo-Pakistan war of 1965. The Government of India needed an organization that could independently collect external information. Its main task is to prevent incidents like terrorism by collecting information from foreign governments and other ways.

Samant Goel is a 1984 Punjab Cadre IPS officer who was appointed as the Chief of the Research and Analysis Wing on 26 June 2019. In 2022, his tenure was extended till June 30, 2023, who will retire on June 30, 2023. He had joined RAW in 2001. In the 1990s, he played an important role in stopping terrorism in Punjab and in the Balakot surgical strike. Balakot strike was done after Pulwama attack.
