The Global Gender Gap Index measures the status of the gender gap in different countries. The World Economic Forum releases this index. It is an index designed to measure gender equality. it “assesses countries on how well they are dividing their resources and opportunities among their male and female populations, The Global Gender Gap Report was first published by the World Economic Forum in 2006.
According to the Report 2022 of the World Economic Forum (WEF). India’s rank is 135th out of 146 countries in the world in achieving gender equality. According to the report, Iceland retained its position as the most gender-equal country in the world, followed by Finland, Norway, New Zealand and Sweden. India’s rank was 140 out of 156 countries in the Gender Gap Index in 2021.

The report examines four overall areas of inequality between men and women in 130 economies around the globe, over 93% of the world’s population:
- Economic participation and opportunity – outcomes on salaries, participation levels and access to high-skilled employment
- Educational attainment – outcomes on access to basic and higher level education
- Political empowerment – outcomes on representation in decision-making structures
- Health and survival – outcomes on life expectancy and sex ratio

Economic Participation and Opportunity- In this index, India got rank 143 out of 146 countries competing.
Educational Attainment- Here India got rank 107 out of 146. In 2021 India got 114 rank out of 156.
Health and Survival- In this metric, India ranks last (146) among all countries and its score is unchanged from 2021 when rank was 155 out of 156 countries.
Political Empowerment- Among all the sub-indices, it is the place where India ranks highest (48 out of 146).
