- American mathematician Dennis Parnell Sullivan got the Abel Prize for the year 2022. He got the award “for his wide-ranging contributions to topology and its algebraic, geometric and dynamical aspects”.
- Topology is an area of mathematics that developed in the nineteenth century and is concerned with the properties of surfaces that do not change when deformed. Topologically, a circle and a square are identical.
- Dennis Parnell Sullivan has won several awards, among them the Steele Prize, the 2010 Wolf Prize in Mathematics, and the 2014 Balzan Prize for Mathematics. He is also a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society.
The Government of Norway, located in the northern part of the continent of Europe gives this prestigious the Abel Prize annually to world-renowned mathematicians. It started in 2002. Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters gives this prize. The main purpose of the Abel Prize is to encourage outstanding scientific work in the field of mathematics. The award is named after Niels Henrik Abel, a famous Norwegian mathematician. The Abel Prize was first awarded in 2003 to Jean-Pierre Serre, a French mathematician, for his contributions to algebraic geometry, topology and number theory. In this award, the applicant gets 75 lakh Norwegian kroner. Srinivasa SR Vardhan was the first Indian to win the Abel Prize in the field of mathematics.
