America removed India from its currency monitoring list. The US Treasury Department has taken India out of its currency monitoring list. Along with India, the US has also removed Italy, Mexico, Thailand and Vietnam from its currency monitoring list. India was on the list for the last two years. US Finance Minister Janet Yellen during her visit to India held a meeting with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. On the same day the US Treasury Department has taken this step.

China has still not been removed from this list. Apart from neighboring countries, this list currently includes Japan, Korea, Germany, Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan.

The report states that countries that have been removed from the list have met only one of the three criteria in two consecutive reports.

The report noted that China’s failure to publish foreign exchange rates and its exchange rate system’s widespread lack of transparency warrants Treasury monitoring.

What is currency monitoring ?

The US prepares this list to monitor the currency of its major partners. Under this, the US monitors the currency related activities and economic policies of its major trading partners.
